Common Questions
What is lithographic plate scrap?
Lithographic plates are thin aluminium sheets used in offset printing. After each print run the plates are discarded as scrap. They are made from high-purity 1050, 1100 or 3003 alloy — one of the cleanest aluminium scrap grades available.
Do you accept plates with ink on them?
Yes. Ink on the surface of used printing plates is completely fine and does not affect our buy rate. The plates just need to be dry and free of oil.
I am a small printer with only 50kg of plates. Do you collect?
Our standard minimum is 200kg. If you generate plates regularly, we can set up a collection bin at your site and collect once you reach that volume.
Why do printers generate so much litho plate scrap?
Every offset print job requires a new set of aluminium plates — one per colour. A busy commercial printer can generate hundreds of kilograms of plate scrap per week.
